SOCK PUPPETS AND ANGLO-SAXON VILLAGES
DT
This term, Year 4 had an exciting Design and Technology (DT) day, where they brought their creativity to life by making dragon sock puppets!
! This fun project was designed to tie in with our class novel, How to Train Your Dragon. The children began by carefully considering their design criteria and drawing up detailed plans on Tuesday afternoon. This allowed them to fully prepare for the next day's activities.
On Wednesday, the real hands-on fun began! The children gathered their materials and set to work, preparing, cutting, and sewing their sock puppets. The children used a sock from home, alongside a variety of colourful fabrics and thread. Each child added unique features to their puppet, from spiky scales and glittering eyes to dragon wings and fiery tails.
History
in History the children have been immersing themselves in the fascinating world of the Anglo-Saxons, exploring what life was like during this period. In our most recent lesson, the children were given the exciting challenge of designing their very own Anglo-Saxon village. They carefully considered the key elements that would have been essential to daily life, including timber-framed houses, fields for growing crops, and lakes or rivers providing fresh water and fish for the community.
Working with creativity and attention to detail, the children designed their villages on large sheets of paper, making sure to include important features such as communal areas, animal pens, and paths connecting the various structures. Each village was a unique representation of what an Anglo-Saxon settlement might have looked like, with a focus on practical elements that would have supported the villagers' way of life.
