CREEPY CRAWLIES AND DIVISION!!

Recently in maths we have been learning addition, multiplication, division, subtraction and we have also been solving word problems using addition and multiplication.

Every week we switch what we are learning, so one week we might be learning division and then the next week we might be learning addition. Last week were solving word problems using a mix of addition and multiplication. Sometimes when we are solving word problems.   We do 1 step problems, 2 step problems or even 3 or 4 step problems. When we do maths, we have 3 colours to represent what questions we are going to be solving. The colours are red, blue and yellow there is six questions per colour. There is also a mastery for anyone who finishes their questions. This week we were solving division problems using the bus stop method.  It was tricky to start with but we soon got the hang of it.

The tricky this is that when we are doing division we need to use the inverse which is multiplication as well as adding and subtraction! This means we have to be super confident in maths especially with our times tables.  To help us with our confidence we have been practicing our times tables using an online program called maths frame.  Here is the link incase anyone wants to play at home https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/477/Multiplication-Tables-Check

In science, we have been learning all about ways to group living things. We looked at vertebrates and invertebrates. Vertebrates are animals with a backbone. They can be put into 5 main groups which are: birds, mammals, amphibians, fish and reptiles. Invertebrates are animals without a backbone. They can be put into different groups like: crustaceans, insects, arachnids and lots more. 98% of animals on the planet are invertebrates! We went on an invertebrate hunt in the Robins' garden with our magnifying glasses to see if we could find any different invertebrates and used a classification key to work out what they were.

We found: spiders, worms, centipedes, snails, slugs, woodlice and ladybirds.

We looked under plants pots, logs and in the mud because those are common habitats. A habitat is where an animal lives.

We then had to look at what different features they all had like the amount of legs, if they had wings, segments and lots more.

We loved learning more about the different invertebrates and even carefully holding a few!
