Last week, we started off our topic with the classic story of 'The Hungry Caterpillar' by Eric Carle. The children were amazed to learn all about the lifecycle of the butterfly. The children really enjoyed listening to this story. K2 even managed to enjoy the story out in the sunshine! Many children couldn't believe that butterflies start out as a caterpillar before building a cocoon around them for a few weeks and then finally emerging as a magnificent butterfly!

In art, the children produced a variety of pieces creative work that were inspired by the book. Some children chose to sponge paint or draw a caterpillar, some made a caterpillar model using an egg box and many children used paint to design a symmetrical pattern on a butterfly.

In Maths, we used the text to help us learn the days of the week as the caterpillar in the story ate different food on each day of the week. We also learned a days of the week song. 

This week we have continued with the theme of mini beasts and our key text has been 'What the Ladybird Heard' by Julia Donaldson. We have loved exploring this text, making maps, drawing and making ladybirds and singing the song to go with the story.
