HOUSES AND HOMES

In Early Years we have been learning about different types of houses and homes.

We enjoyed a walk around the houses near school to look at their different features. We saw detached and semi-detached houses and bungalows and we spotted the different shapes on the windows and doors.

Upon our return to school, we produced a 3D junk model house out of cardboard cereal boxes and then painted them in bright colours just like in the programme ‘Balamory’. Some of us even wrote our numbers on the doors that we saw on our walk. We also learned about houses from the past and how they are different to our homes now.

We enjoyed watching an episode of Magic Grandad which showed that in the past they had no electricity, no bathrooms, and no hot taps! The children were amazed to find out that people had baths in front of the kitchen fire and using newspaper as toilet roll!
