A HUGE number of things have happened since our last blog – we have enjoyed outdoor learning where we created rubbing over leaves and twigs to make a nature picture
I attended my first Hills Academy school disco recently and my ears are still ringing! However, it was great to see so many children enjoying themselves – chomping on their sweets, swinging their glow sticks around and showing off their best party clothes.
The new academic year is off to a flying start! Our Ready to Learn week has been completed, expectations have been illustrated and both classes have settled in to their new routines.
Last month Year 5 went camping on an Island called Bryher on the Isles of Scilly. For a lot of the children it was a first time on a boat, sleeping in a tent and being away from their parents!

Learning continues in leaps and bounds for the whole of Year 5. Already we are over a month into the year with the children settling in really well and adapting to the shift upwards in pace and expectations.

This half term, in science, we have been looking at air and water resistance. Air resistance is the force of friction between air and another material and water resistance is the force of water against another material.
This term, in art, Year 5 have been learning about various artists, such as Hokusai and Alfred Wallis. We have had an opportunity to use a variety of mediums, such as oil pastels, water colour paint and water colour pencils to explore these artists' work.
We had an early start on the 15th December, eagerly anticipating a long-awaited trip! Hampton Court Palace had been postponed once before due to poor weather conditions and we were rearing to go, looking forward to the secrets that the palace held!
